The book The Afghan Experience has been published by Dr. Nadia Fadel Abbas, a scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad. The work explores the political and security transformations that Afghanistan has undergone from the Soviet invasion in 1979 to the return of the Taliban to power in 2021.

Adopting a deeply analytical approach, the book examines the various phases of conflict in Afghanistan, beginning with international interventions and the rivalry among global powers, followed by the emergence of jihadist groups and al-Qaeda, the establishment of the Taliban Islamic Emirate in 1996, and the subsequent U.S. intervention after the events of September 11, 2001.

The author also discusses the agreement reached between the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and the Taliban in February 2020, the rapid withdrawal of American forces from Kabul that ensued, and the resulting political and security repercussions within Afghanistan and across the broader region.

This publication represents a significant contribution to the Iraqi academic library in the field of political and security studies. It offers a comprehensive scholarly perspective on the nature of the Afghan conflict and its geopolitical transformations over more than four decades.

Moreover, this achievement aligns with two of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4, which advocates for quality education, and Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions.
